Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, and Qatar University Research Office  have announced the winners of the Qatar University Scientists 2015 Scopus Awards.

The awards ceremony, held last week at Qatar University, Doha, was attended by more than 40 guests representing Qatar’s top scientific community. The Scopus awards were presented by Professor Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad, President of Qatar University. In addition, special consideration was also given to Qatar University Research Office during the ceremony in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Qatar research community.

The Scopus awards program honours young researchers who are building their careers in academic research and helps them gain recognition of their work. The Qatar University Scientists 2015 Scopus Awards ceremony was the first Scopus Award ceremony in the Gulf region.

Dr. Abdul Sattar Al-Taie, Director of Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), said, “I am extremely pleased to see Qatar University’s researchers are being awarded for their research output. It is also impressive that, based on the presented data we see a sharp rise in Qatar University’s research output quantity since 2007 and that is a clear reflection of QNRF’s strategy for funding research”.

Elsevier provided quantitative analyses using data from Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature; while subject experts from Qatar University focused on qualitative analyses.

Other criteria taken into account were:

– Nature and uniqueness of research
– Outcomes of research
– International collaboration
– M Index
– Cited/Uncited publications.

Per discipline, the 2015 Qatar University Scopus award winners are:
