Some are handed in as their owners are no longer able to keep them but many are found as strays and require tender loving care. We frequently have cats brought to us that are unknowingly expecting kittens and what was one extra cat can often become several bundles of fur needing attention. We are presently enduring an extremely high level of dogs and cats requiring new ‘forever homes’, and our kennels and catteries are full with over 89 dogs and 39 cats. Sadly, we have no further space to take in any more dogs or cats at present – unless the situation is so dire that if we do not take them in, their lives will be threatened. Anyone adopting from Animals in Need have total support from the staff and we are always prepared to step in if a problem arises or our advice is required. All of our staff are vital to the running of our charity. They are totally dedicated to helping the animals and birds in our care and constantly work tirelessly to ensure that the animals are cared for, comfortable and wherever possible are fit enough to be released as in the cases of wild life. The staff must clean out kennels, catteries, stables, bird and hedgehog cages, aviaries, ponds, chicken coops and fields. They then prepare meals for the cases currently in our care, which can number in excess of 600. Some of the animals require specialist food and this also must be addressed. In 2017 we are aiming to provide and equip a new hospital unit and to raise enough money to be able to fund a veterinary surgeon to treat any of the birds and animals that require attention. This will save us thousands of pounds in vet bills and reduce the time currently taken in attending to a desperately poorly animal or bird. For us to be able to do this, we will be searching for further funding from anyone willing to help. We have a team of volunteers that are prepared to stand outside shops or on local markets in all weathers to make people aware of our need for support and to raise awareness of our plight to help all of the animals in our care. Although most people kindly make donations, it is an on-going necessity to raise the funding that we totally rely on to survive. Unfortunately, we do not receive any governmental assistance or benefits.
