We loved the idea of welcoming all new patients to the clinic through a care coordinator who was there to alleviate any anxi- eties and answer any questions they may have before, during and after they saw the dentist. The clinic itself is state-of-the-art (including an on-site CT Scanner) and the clinicians rarely have to refer patients elsewhere. Thanks to this focus on providing exceptional standards of care, 99% of the patients have all of the treatment they require and want, in this medically, cutting- edge environment. Innovative services like these, however, need to be provided by the very best staff and as such, Shawlands Dental Care treats every member of its team incred- ibly well. Unlike other practices we saw that incentivised staff to sell, the management team here incentivised exceptional customer service. Staff wellness is at the forefront of their business model. The break room is well-stocked with healthy fruit and veg deliveries and there are regular team build- ing days scheduled. Little touches like this, as well as the higher rates of pay, mean that the clinic is able to take its pick of the best talent on the market. Our judging panel was particularly impressed by the company’s commitment to the environment. They invested heavily in a paperless administration system because they felt that despite recycling whenever and wherever they could, there was still more that could be done. Looking ahead, Shawlands Dental Care has exciting plans for expansion within the dental clinic which will be music to the ears of residents who wish to register and referring dentists. They also hope to make another charity mission with UNICEF either later this year so it can pay its success forward.
