Following the treatment centre’s well-deserved success in theHealthcare &Pharmaceutical Awards 2020, we got in touchwithDr. Valerie Kading, DNP, MBA, MSN, PMHNP-BC, Group CEOof Sierra Tucson to find outmore. Since 1983, Sierra Tucson has provided hope and healing for individuals who have struggled with spiritual, physical, and emotional pain. To begin Dr. Kading provides a brief overview of the treatment centre and offers more insight into its strengths. “As a leader in the fields of behavioural and mental health care, Sierra Tucson is internationally renowned for its effective therapies, skilled staff, serene setting, and innovative leadership. A longstanding legacy of clinical excellence and compassionate care has resulted in recovery for those struggling with substance use disorder, trauma- related issues, disordered eating, chronic pain, mood and anxiety disorders, and co-occurring disorders. Utilising the Sierra Tucson Model®, a multidisciplinary team of professionals focus on treating the whole person, not just the symptoms, thereby offering the tools, resources, and care needed for lasting recovery. Sierra Tucson continues the support with a full year of care through our Connect365 programme and a lifetime of alumni services.” Sierra Tucson is committed to pioneering treatment breakthroughs including individualised and experiential therapies. Working in such a competitive field could make it difficult for some to differentiate themselves from the rest, however as Dr. Kading goes on to explain, the treatment centre has a rather unique selling point in this regard. “Sierra Tucson has Sep20113 earned a name and a reputation that has been firmly planted in a league of its own. Through an unwavering dedication to our mission of lasting recovery, we combine integrative and experiential therapies with evidence-based practices to provide a full range of treatment modalities. The combination of integrative treatment and the process of helping individuals uncover the root causes of their challenges is typically what sets us apart from other treatment facilities.” The specialist teams at Sierra Tucson all possess incredible talents which contribute towards the treatment of individuals. Moreover, as Dr. Kading goes on to explain, it’s their knowledge and experience which truly ensures the treatment centre remains at the forefront of the industry. “The multidisciplinary treatment teams consist of full-time medical and psychiatric staff, pain specialists, certified addiction specialists, psychologists, Master’s-level therapists, eating disorder specialists, registered dietitians, therapeutic activity and fitness specialists, exercise physiologists, and licensed integrative therapy practitioners. Through their expertise we customise our treatment plans to meet each individual where s/he is.” As we have all seen, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all areas of society. For Sierra Tucson in particular it has caused further stress and trauma in some of its patients, however as Dr. Kading Sierra Tucson explains further, the treatment centre launched trauma recovery programmes to address the invisible wounds that are either new or have been exacerbated by the pandemic. “Recently we launched our Healthcare Heroes Trauma Recovery Programmes to reinforce the idea that working with our own physiology is vital for overall healing of the mind, body, and spirit. Candidates for these programmes begin with a complimentary tele assessment conducted by a trauma healing counsellor to determine their individual treatment recommendations.” The Chrysalis Programme opened in 2019 and as Dr. Kading goes on to describe this in more detail, it’s clear this is a project Sierra Tucson is particularly proud of. “Using an integrative model of care, we provide holistic, customised treatment for those who need more structured support and personalised attention. This sub-acute inpatient care programme, housed within our state-of-the-art 30,000 square foot, Joint-Commission accredited, 44-bed Copper Sky building, is designed to serve those who require individualised treatment with wrap- around services. Patients who are admitted to the programme are those who may suffer with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), chronic suicidality, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), delusions, eating disorders or PTSD, and can benefit from the programme’s gentle approach, while experiencing the clinical excellence that has defined Sierra Tucson for over three decades.” Finally, Dr. Kading comments on the immediate future of the treatment centre, sharing some of its plans going forward. “Having helped over 36,000 people and 90,000 family’s members, we find hope and healing. Currently we are undergoing renovations in our lodges to convert more of our rooms to anti-ligature rooms to meet the demand for mood patients and provide the safest environment for them.” Company: Sierra Tucson Contact: Max Cohen, UK Clinical Liaison Email: [email protected] Website: www.sierratucson.com
