Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Awards 2023

42 friends and colleagues. Much of Anita’s work comes via referrals which is testimony to her clients’ satisfaction. Having worked with medical students and doctors from each specialty area and at every career stage, Anita possesses a deep understanding of the issues faced by aspiring and qualified medical practitioners and also the opportunities that are available to people with their education and training. To this end, she provides personalised coaching and assistance and is firmly committed to her clients’ successful development of applications that will get them a seat at the interview table and the skills to make them a standout candidate. “I’ve worked with doctors in remote locations in Australia such as Alice Springs, Broken Hill, Mount Gambier, and rural Tasmania,” Anita enthuses. “Because I understand that doctors may be working at any time during the day or night, I have developed a range of self-paced online courses – for medical students and prevocational trainees – that can be accessed and worked through whenever suits them.” This year, the organisation’s Standout Career Development Workshop was accredited by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) as an education activity eligible for 13.5 hours Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This enables doctors to meet a substantial part of their annual requirement of 50 hours via an online workshop attended over two days or four evenings. This is a unique opportunity for doctors to develop career skills that will help them attain fulfilling roles within medicine or beyond, whilst meeting their CPD requirements. “Unlike most other CPD offerings, it is not about clinical knowledge and it is focused purely on them,” elaborates Anita. “I facilitate this workshop and it is designed to give doctors the opportunity to share their career highlights, challenges, and goals with a group of like-minded people. We work together to develop practical documents and skills including communication and leadership that will support their efforts to seek and apply for jobs.” As a highly experienced Medical Career Coach, Anita Fletcher is the founder of advice-based specialist consulting practice, Standout Medical Careers, which specialises in coaching people to understand and convey their value so that they can realise their true potential.
